within our agency. We are
looking for N.C. certified officers and or interested non-certified
police officer candidates that may be eligible for us
to send through the Police Academy / BLET Program while being paid as a

Currently, our starting salary for new police officer candidates without experience is $31,937.00 annually. Additional salary incentives are in place for those certified officers with experience. Effective July 1, 2008 we expect an increase in this starting salary as well as other increases in the total compensation system.

Employment, Recruitment and SelectionCurrently, the Oxford Police Department has an authorized strength of 32 sworn officers, seven full-time and three part-time civilian employees. Sworn officers are assigned a variety of functions and have opportunities for lateral transfer or potential promotion in a number of different areas:
Sworn Officer RequirementsCandidates must be at least 21 years of age, be a high school graduate or equivalent (further education is highly desirable), a U.S. citizen with no criminal arrests or convictions of serious charges, possess (or be able to obtain) a N.C. operators license and have a driving history with no significant traffic violations. N.C. BLET graduates will be given preference, but non-certified candidates are eligible for application. All candidates will be undergo a formal interview board process, a rigorous background investigation, psychological evaluation, drug screen and physical exam prior to appointment.
