Complaint & Commendation

How A Citizen Makes a Complaint or Commends An Employee

The Oxford Police Department strives to provide law enforcement services to the community in an ethical and professional manner. We pledge to review any questions that come about as a result of actions involving department employees.

If you wish to make a complaint about the actions of an Oxford Police Officer or about any aspect of the Oxford Police Department, please:

  • Come to the Police Department, 204 E. McClanahan St., Oxford and tell any employee that you want to make a complaint.
  • Call the Police Department at 919-693-3161 and tell the person answering the phone that you want to make a complaint.
  • Write your complaint out and mail it to the Chief of Police, Oxford P.D. P.O. Box 1186, 204 E. McClanahan St. Oxford, NC 27565.
  • Click here to complete an on-line form.  This information goes directly to the Chief of Police.

Complaints will be accepted from anonymous sources, juveniles and persons under arrest in police custody as long as the complaint contains sufficient information to warrant a review.

Any Oxford Police Department supervisor will assist you in completing a complaint against an officer or employee. You will be asked to identify yourself (unless you insist on remaining anonymous) and then to give specific details about your complaint. You will then be asked to sign your complaint and any statements requested.

Your complaint will then be investigated. You may be contacted again and asked additional questions about your complaint.

If it is going to take over 10 days to investigate your complaint you may receive a letter telling you approximately when you may expect the inquiry to be complete.

When the investigation regarding your complaint is complete, the Chief of Police will review the investigation and you will be contacted by letter or telephone explaining what has been found out about the matter and what the disposition of the complaint is.
